What are your opinions and experiences with John Deere's baler inspection program? Have a 468 baler that has gone over 5200 bales. Haven't done any repairs to it, just thought might be a good idea to have it checked over this winter. Is there anything specific to look at around those bales? Thanks.

You can get the tech manual and do the same thing as JD, however it's more than opening up your baler and looking for damage and missing parts. You'll also need to check your baler against baler specs to determine if it's in or out of spec which will help you find the damaged and missing parts as well. The advantage that you'll have is that you can keep an eye on those things that are still in spec but heading toward being out of spec and try to determine why it is going out of spec before it gets there. Here's a partial list of what we check every year:
  • Slip Clutch,
  • Adjust Upper Drive Roll Chain,
  • Starter Roll Drive Chain,
  • Upper Drive Roll Sprocket Alignment,
  • MegaTooth Pickup Drive Chain (Spring),
  • Adjust Lower Front Gate Roll Scraper,
  • Check Belt Tracking,
  • Adjusting Belt Tracking with COVEREDGE Net Wrap,
  • Adjust Twine Arm-to-Starter Roll, Cutter Link Support, and Twine Arm Stop,
  • Adjust Twine Arm-to-Cutter Link Support,
  • Adjust Twine Arm-to-Twine Stop,
  • Adjust Twine Cutter-to-Twine Arm,
  • Check and Adjust Twine Cutter Knife,
  • Adjust Twine Cutter Contact Tab,
  • Adjust Clearance Between Cutter Link Support and Twine Arm,
  • Adjust Twine Cutter Tension,
  • Adjust Twine Indicator Retaining Strap,
  • Gate Gap
  • Adjust lower Net Wrap Guide,
  • Check and Adjust Net Wrap V-Belt Idler Tension,
  • Check and Adjust Net Wrap Switch,
  • Adjust Net Wrap Counterknife,
  • Check and Adjust Net Wrap Feed Roll Brake,
