I work in the area south of Rochester and the alfalfa fields look real bad for the most part. Some look like they were sprayed last fall, which is not the case. Alot of fields look like at least half the plants are dead and many have more than that.

The best looking fields are fields that were planted last year especially planted last fall.

I am still waiting for things to green up somemore up my way before I get worried. Maybe planting more corn.

Lots of winter kill around here too south of Albert Lea and Austin. Lot of fields are being plowed this spring and going to corn because the alfalfa winter killed. Also a lot of new seeding is going in to replace it.

Looks like that's what I'm gonna do, dig up my alfalfa fields and plant corn. Get ready for even higher hay prices.

Seeded 180 acres of new alfalfa the other day. The alfalfa that is "decent" is getting ryegrass sown into it tonight. Gonna be a wild ride this next winter...
