Round Baler Belt

Thought I would make a new post on the subject.

What are everyone's opinions on the brand of belt when putting new ones on?

I am planning to put new ones on my baler this spring before it gets busy. The belts that are on it now are not wore down, but several splices are starting to rip out and I have several that are very tight and several that are very loose. And several have notch marks on the back side from spinning on a roller.

I have no clue how many bales these belts have rolled, or how old they are. I halfway just want to do it so I don't have to worry about it.

Just priced new belts from mother Deere. All 8 belts with Flexco laces already installed: $3614.46
Having them cut me all 8 belts, and me install the laces and pins: $4202.40. . . . . .???!!???

Ordered from Shoup with Flexco laces: $2720.

I have a couple other sources I want to check, but curious on opinions. I heard from a family member who heard from someone who heard from someone to not buy the belts from Shoup. That they weren't worth anything. Not sure if I can trust that one data point.

I replaced mine in the fall of 2021. I run a 535 Deere. I got mine from haytools.com. So far I am very pleased. I’ve ran about 850 5x5.5 bales through them so far. Mine came and were Goodyear brand. There is also a local mechanic that does a lot of baler service work and he swears by Stewart’s in Texas.
I put new belts from Stewarts on my JD 467 several yrs ago. I've baled nearly 10,000 bales since I installed the new belts with no problems.

This is where I got belts in the past few years https://wccobelt.com/ They make OEM belts for several manufacturers, and I thought they were reasonably priced. They're in North Dakota, so for me it was next day delivery. They don't sell retail, so you have to go through a retailer/dealer. I used geneticseed.com

That link doesn't work when I click on it. I did a general search in google Stewarts Baler Belts and couldn't find their website?

Thank you I edited my post & removed link.
If your current belts have good carcasses and surface texture, and they measure long enough to trim the old lacing off and still be long enough, you would could just as well replace the lacings and keep using them.

I think most of my belts would be fine to measure out and put new lacings on. But There are 2 or 3 that are getting very short seem to be getting brittle as well. They are obviously wore down further than the others. So I think I have mismatched belts to begin with.

Like I said, I'm halfway wanting to change them just so I know where I stand.
As a former John Deere mechanic this is a very familiar question as to the pricing difference. I believe that the discrepancy in the price would be the actual labor it take a shop mechanic to build said belts at $150 an hour shop labor (highway robbery in my opinion). I know the places I have worked for were billing a half an hour per belt so 4 hours labor for 8 belts plus parts. Now as a properly trained John Deere mechanic who was to upsell the John Deere belt they say the big selling point of the brand name belt was that it was Kevlar lined or some bs. Now this may be true and the longevity of the belt may be better but actually that is a question for the consumer as I was just the installer.
I ordered belts from Shoup.

Hope to get them put on in the coming weeks. I'll report back with my opinions on them.
New belts went on fine and look/feel much better. The old belts were very slick compared to these.

Plan to bale with it tomorrow.
