Is reel adjusted where it's teeth just clear sickle guards & in a rearward position? Have you adjusted reel speed to match tractor ground speed? Is auger barely clearing rub irons in platform? Have you attempted to alter the auger rpms?

One thing that can cause this is worn rubber paddles on the auger. If they are worn short, the hay likes to pile up until the paddles can grab it, then sends it all through in a wad.
Oh, and the paddle mounts can bend too.
