Have JD 348 Wire since 92 with Holescher Accumulator. Thinking of getting Massey 1839. Bale mostly coastal but it can get pretty heavy where A-1 is not slow enough. The accumulator has a problem when the bale is oversized. The accumulator turn them on edge and when the arm comes down can catch the end of the next bale if it is oversized. From what I read about the 1839 that can't happen????? I just baled 1613 and had 3 busted bales ... all three can be blamed on the operator ... me. With trade he's asking 19, includes hydralic tension and bale chute. I reall don't need a bale with the accumulator. I quess that is a good deal?

Gradyjohn, I bought a 1839 this spring with tensioner, bale chute, and bale chute extension for $22K. Is your 348 worth more than $3K? I also dont really need the chute and the extension but wanted it "just in case". I really like my 1839 so far and have just run a few thousand thru it so far(drought) but it can really swallow a wad of hay....but it likes it in a wide swath...about 48" wide... I think as long as the hay is completely cured that it will swallow anything....but as far as not being too long....if you swallow a big wad of hay right about the time the bale ties it can be a little longer than the others....but otherwise you will be fine...if you get into a massive windrow stretch, just drop down a gear and you will get consistent length. I also have the need to be consistent in length as I have the Kuhns 10-tie bale and the tie bales need to be under 38" in length to be able to turn into position on the accumulator sled.

Haymaster:JD dealer offered me 4 for it for a 348 twine. Came out to 18.5. They Massey dealer offered me 8 off of the list price. Did you trade? I am a little reluctant to trade in the middle of the season ... it it doesn't rain soon the season will be over here in N. Texas. I am also unsure about the Massed dealer knowledge.

No trade. Is there a reputable hesston dealer nearby? The trade off on waiting a year probably will be about the same as steel prices just keep rising and we may still have a clueless White House as far as stabilizing inflation, which this socialisitic administration wants to say doesn't exist....hopefully the young people in this country will have had enough of the current economic climate and vote Alfred E Newman out...hope you fellas over in N TX get some precip.....we finally did in a nick of time.
