When adjusting sensors and tone and code are achieved (code being 176) as I tighten it,no matter the technique, the tone stops and code goes to 177. Are sensors faulty ? does it make a difference if code is only one off ? is there a specific way to tighten them ?

This may or may not apply to your situation. First make sure sensors are in the center of the belt. I have seen some that were on the wrong side of the lever. Next make sure that the belts are original length belts. A spliced belt on one side can confuse the sensor. Other info >>John Deere JD 469 Baler bale shape sensor issues
ok, will check to see if belt is spliced

Take your time. Tighten slowly. Sometimes as you tighten keep pressure in the direction to maintain the tone. It sometimes takes me 5, 10, 15, 20 tries to get it exactly right. It will try tour patience if you are trying to hurry. As bad as it seems, imagine adjusting with no tone. That I can tell you is no fun unless you have 2 people.

I hate attempting to adjust those "touchy sensors"! On my baler I just leave left side 2 bars higher with no hay in chamber & have it 2 bars higher when bale is completed. Easy Peasy.

yes, even the slightest movement changes it all. It took a while but everything is set, will check again before heading out to bale.
