Hi all,

Big fan of the forum . . . .

We are a horse agistment farm in Australia. We use 3'x4x8' large square bales of oaten hay as it is economical vs small square bales.

I have seen a few people make a machine which splits the bale in half, similar to the first process in a Steffen bale compression system.

Has anyone here made similar?

What size rod / bore hydraulic ram should I be considering for this?

How may tonnes of pressure?

What sort of psi?

Thanks guys

What are you trying to achieve? Just cut one in to pieces or smaller slices still tied like those in a krone baler can make?

Obviously you have a frontend loader capable of lifting 4x3s .....I use a tanco shear grab here. (I'm 4hrs from you). It will leave half a bale in the forks with the outside falling off each side when loading a mixer wagon for dairy cattle. The remaining half can be tied back together to be used next time.

If you want to see what I mean watch this video I made.
