Report on hay thefts in Missouri...Missouri Farm Bureau president Blake Hurst says thieves are actually targeting hay bales that are left out in fields. Just of note to the CBS station KMOX in St Louis...a picture of a baler and not a planter would give you bit more credibility...but thanks for getting the word out!
I like where it says "thieves are targeting those big bundles of hay that are left out in the field prior to harvesting." Guy prolly used to do a lot of farming himself......
"This trend is happening in farm states across the country, so much so that some are now putting global positioning trackers inside their bales, in case they're stolen."
I'm curious what kind of GPS they are using that is cheap enough to put in a bale of hay?
I'm with shortrow & it wouldn't even have to be my hay. I got $17,000 in construction tools stole out of my construction trailer about 8 years ago & that opened my eyes to thieving. I've always said that if I find a person stealing they are going to feel the wrath from my prior experience, even if it isn't my stuff.
Had somebody try to load a rd bale in pickup one time out of road ditch. You could se were they pushed up the side of the ditch part way and backed up to it but they didn't have enough ummmph to get it rolled in.It was 5x6 about 1600 lbs.
To bad it didn't roll on them.
I remember in high school some people I went to school with did a scavenger hunt. I remember a round bale was 1 of the items they had to get. I always thought of how heavy that must of been. I do remember them taking it back to the place they got it but the early 90's was still a different time.
Last year I had my guys load up a bale for a guy to steal......wth? Guy just pulls up and my guys load him up, that's why they are called laborers.....
I always told my laborers that I was paying them from the neck down.
